Plan around energy, not sights
- One main outing in the morning and one in the evening; rest from noon to 4 PM.
- Choose a hotel with a lift and a car-accessible entrance close to Godowlia or Dashashwamedh — many ghat-side guest houses involve steep steps.
- Avoid Mondays, Shravan and festival days for darshan.
Darshan made easier
-
01
Book Sugam darshan
A shorter, separate queue at a fixed time. How it works.
-
02
Get as close as possible by road
Drivers can drop near the vehicle barriers; cycle-rickshaws cover some of the remaining distance where allowed.
-
03
Ask for a wheelchair
The help desks in the Dham can arrange wheelchairs and assistance.
-
04
Carry less
Leave phones and bags at the hotel so there is no locker queue.
On the river
Boats are the gentlest way for elders to see the ghats. Choose a boat from a ghat with a short, even set of steps (Dashashwamedh and Assi have the best access), and ask the boatman to help with boarding. Motorboats are more stable and have seating; rowing boats are lower and harder to step into.
For the Ganga Aarti, a boat avoids the crush on the steps altogether.
Health and safety
- Carry a list of medicines and conditions in English and Hindi.
- Sir Sunderlal Hospital at BHU and several private hospitals in Mahmoorganj and the Cantonment have emergency departments.
- Heat and cold both hit elders hardest: plan around the weather.

We plan elder-friendly trips
Tell us about your parents’ mobility and dates. We will suggest a step-free hotel, arrange a car, Sugam darshan guidance and a boat with easy boarding.
